Ode to an old orange Jeep
67Orange Restored Willys Jeep Pick UP (Not mine)
1981
It was nineteen hundred
And eighty one
Back in Texas to follow God’s Son
In business I was, yet busy in school
Not just school
But grad school you see
A painter’s son with a family to feed
Cars painted by day, more by night
Study was hard and money was tight
Work, work everywhere work
But getting paid now that was the quirk
Promises, promises, “oh yes we’ll pay”
Then suddenly no water,
No lights to see
So at night we pray,
For those who should pay
Used cars so often, I would paint
For fear my young children,
From hunger might faint
Though work was steady
Their payment seldom ready
So a painter I was and a student too
But as evil collector
Some thought me they knew
Calling, calling, anything please
My financial pain I must appease
So out of the blue not really wanted
This ugly orange Jeep for me it ever haunted
Hub 4 of 30 in 30 Day Challenge
Seven years I drove her
The used car dealer pleads,
“It’s all I have”
My thoughts all asunder,
“Is this a financial salve”?
So this 55 Willys, a Pick Up Jeep
Not many like it; for me it was cheap
Sell it I might, restore it for more
Winter arrives,
The snow becomes harsh
The roads piled high with snow and ice
The average car
Would not remain nice
But the jeep, the old orange Jeep
Pushes right through
This cold icey marsh
So thoughts to sell,
Pass more every day
Money I sought, in so many ways
Seven years I drove her
Just as she was
But then she stopped,
Liked time often does
Parked her I did, at my father’s place
Dreams to restore,
My thoughts did race
But life gets busy and families grow
Nature’s forces do stir and stain
So the old orange Jeep no longer remains
My thoughts now linger as I sometimes weep
This my ode to my old orange Jeep

Great poem Lee! Isn't it neat how attached we become to our cars. I remember my first car, I named her "Rosy" because she was a bright red colour. I do think of her fondly as you do of your truck.
llove this piece I shared it with my followers and voted it up!
I loved this piece Drtruthman! I had an old car that I loved once--and in the midst of raising kids and paying bills, it just wasn't feasible to keep it up--I love my kids though--
Drtruthman - I absolutely love your poem. I vividly remember the hard, tight days when my children were little and there was never enough money to cover the bills. And who had a credit card 30 or 40 years ago? We certainly didn't. What a blessing the old orange jeep was. :)
Lee great poem about your old Jeep. Good luck with the 30/30 Challenge. I hope you enjoy doing it as much as I am.
up/awesome is the vote.
How cute Dr Lee. I can understand how sometimes vehicles can bring fond memories to us. I remember my parents' '57 Chevy ~ remember this color Dr Lee that used to be popular in the 50's? It was Salmon colored and white, Salmon and white. Oh how I loved that color and that car. I was only three years old and I used to beg my dad to take me anywhere he was going....even if to a boring hardware store, lol. To tell you how funny it is linking memories to an inanimate object, to this day I love to go to hardware stores(even tho there is nothing in there that interests me) but the linkage being it reminds me of that Salmon-White '57 Chevy. Thanks always ~ you bring back memories for us all by recording your own.
Wow Dr. Truthman you are getting good at these poems.. Love the jeep... awesome... Keep it up. I voted way up
Be Blessed
